District Schools XC Success for Newcastle runners & Parkrun PBs.

Post Primary District Cross Country

As we near the end of January, the school’s cross country season gets underway. With Districts taking place on Thursday at Delamont, a large number of the Newcastle junior squads swapped their yellow and red vests for their school colours and lined up against each other in their respective races. With St.Malachy’s High School, Shimna Integrated College, St.Louis Grammar School, Down High, St.Patrick’s Grammar School, Our Lady’s Grammar School and Assumption Grammar School all selecting Newcastle AC runners to represent their Cross Country Squads.

Kicking off this weekend’s running action on Friday at Saint Malachy’s High School, Castlewellan was the annual meet between local schools St.Malachy’s High School and Shimna Integrated College as a warm-up event to prepare students for Districts on the 25th of January.

There is also the tendency to arrive and proffer all sorts of excuses about how badly you are running, how out of shape you are and the struggle it will be to even complete 5 miles, let alone run them at any kind of tempo. Harry Rewrites History at Navan

The mind of a young person is very impressionable. More open to learning and being shaped by outside factors. Also a young mind does not have the life experience to put up natural barriers to reaching their full potential when it seems the sky is the limit. For one young athlete, Harry McVeigh, he found the limit and smashed through it as he soared into the stratosphere on Sunday past, at the National Cross Country Championships to find himself on the podium as one of the best U11 runners in the whole island.

There seems to be no such thing as too much muck and gutters for one season. Without fail, this has to be the most challenging season with regards the ground conditions underfoot and we’re only nearing the middle of the cross country season. Every route has held onto the water like a saturated sponge and it doesn’t matter what course you embrace or where abouts on the island you toe the line, it’s going to produce plenty of washing but also plenty of memories to boot.
