Brendan Teer takes men’s title as Joanne Mills retains ladies top prize:
On Tuesday 3rd September 2013 nearly one hundred and forty athletes turned out for the traditional Mill Hill Mile road race in Castlewellan. The annual event, which see’s competitors start in Annsborough and run one mile uphill to the Market House in Castlewellan, has enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence in recent years, quite possibly due to the impressive amount of Junior athletes now getting involved. Thanks to all who donated towards the Shimna Valley Cancer Care for Children Charity. A total of £578.71 was raised on the night and Newcastle AC donated a further £500 to bring the total to £1078.71. Continue reading

The annual Mill Hill Mile race will take place on Monday 3rd September at 7:00 pm.
Registration from 6:15 pm in Castlewellan Upper Square.
Previous year results are available HERE. They now go back as far as 1989. Thanks to Darragh McCrickard for inputting these.

Please note that all children 9 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult throughout the race. All Parents/guardians are responsible for the safety of their children, regardless of age, during the race as the race is held on an open road.

Teer continues his return to form with an impressive climb – The Mill Hill Mile 2009 by Joe McCann
An eclectic mix of runners, ranging from just over 6 to well over 60 took to the line in the village of Annsborough to tackle the arduous climb that separates the village from Castlewellan. With McNeilly poised to take the times and assist Frank Morgan on the start line and winner for the previous 6 years Alan McKibbin nowhere to be seen, the trophy was destined to reside on a different mantelpiece for the next twelve months. The annual Mill Hill uphill mile race takes place on 7th September 2009. The race, which has been ran every year since 1987 with the exception of 2001, is the brainchild of local running stalwart Marty McVeigh who was born and bred on the same slope as the runners will tackle. The race begins in Annsborough and requires the athletes to negotiate the steep climb to just past the library in Castlewellan. Continue reading
