Club Event on Thursday 9th August

Over the summer holidays it is customary for club activity to fall by the wayside.

In an attempt to re-create a bit of club spirit there will be a club event on Thursday evening of next week (9th August).  It will be a paired time trial around the red route in Tollymore – one competitor running and one biking.  Runners will start at 6:30pm and bikers at 6:40pm.  If you are interested in taking part, please let me know by email or text (07860266118), stating if you would prefer to run or bike or if you are happy to do either.  I will then create pairs to try to make sure that every team is in with a shout!!!  There will also be a cup of tea and some tasty treats after the event.  Please let me know if you would like to take part.  Feel free to bring a friend or two (providing you have some), but you would need to forward their naes to me for organisation purposes. email, call or text if you need any more information.

Hope to see pleanty of you there on Thursday.

Patrick’s Day comes early this year

Well done to everyone, 14 in total, who competed in the 5km time trial last night (Tuesday 6th March).  Patrick Sheridan was first man to cross the finish line, clocking an impressive 18:04 for the flat 5k course.  There were sub-18 performances from Mark Kendall and David O’Flaherty who recorded the fastest time of the night.  Thanks to Jerome ‘The Prophet’ for turning up to start the race and record the times at the finish.  A great evening was had by all, especially the 8 hardy souls who attended the post-race banquet in Exotikka! Results and Report (by Joe McCann)

5km time trial on Tuesday 7 March 2012

The route for the handicap has been confirmed and is detailed below.

The race will begin close to the Harbour House Inn.  The course follows the traditional 5 mile route along South and Central Promenade passing O’Hare’s Bars (great food at competitive prices!!), through the lights, past the Anchor and turning left into Tullybrannigan. Continue reading

Club Race

Marty McVeigh has suggested the following:

“as an alternative to the handicap on the 7th, what about a run over a 10k course in Castlewellan? This course was used for a race in 1986! How many will break Franks time, not too many I bet, free bottle of beer at the “Indian” to anyone that does.
The course is, start at the High School, main street, forest park, crossroads, rangers hut, lake side sign, go right follow Tarmac path to gate (2 laps), lake side sign, rangers hut, crossroads, finish about 30 mts after speed ramp on your way back to the main entrance (spray paint)

You can have a go at this at any time, just record your time, I will believe you!
PS: I will buy 2 bottles for anyone beating my 1986 time!”
