Each night there will be 2 to 3 events for each age group, typically 1 or 2 track events and one field event.
Four members of Newcastle Junior Athletics Club travelled to the Mary Peters Track on the evening of Thursday 14th April to compete in the first Meet. Competing in the Mini Boys category was Callum Cope and Niall McCauley. Both boys had a brilliant evening competing for the first time in such superb facilities. Running well they secured times of 14.52 sec for Niall and 14.63 sec for Callum in the 80m sprint. They then went on to compete in the long jump with Callum jumping 2.64m and Niall 2.46m.
Hannah Carson and Alex Johnston are no strangers to the Firmus Energy Series and returned this year to compete on both the long jump and 100m sprint. With a large pool of athletes for the long jump the girls did extremely well, Alex jumping 3.10m and Hannah 2.99m. In the 100m sprint, places were reversed between the girls with Hannah running in 16.12sec and Alex on her heels at 16.25sec.
The Super 6 is a popular, longstanding series and has been a firm favourite in the Athletic Calendar with more than 700 competitors. It is run by Lagan Valley AC in association with Firmus Energy and is a great opportunity for our junior members to compete in such fabulous facilities.
Entries however MUST be completed online for the series using the link below.
You need to register online for each night that you wish to complete and an entry fee of £3 is payable online.
This entry fee will enable you to take part in any event within your age group.
One word of warning is that although races start at 7pm, they can run late.
Races for the younger children do take place 1st though.
The second meet is this Thursday 28th April and registration closes this Tuesday at midnight so get moving quick!
The meeting on the 23rd June features 4 x 100m Relay races for age groups U13 upwards.
We would hope to be able to field a few relay teams on this night.
Looking forward to seeing some of you there.
