The countdown is on and the waiting is almost over!
Saturday 31st March sees Liatroim Fontenoys, in association with Newcastle AC, present the second annual Leitrim 5 mile road race and fun run. The long established County Down club is delighted to announce that international athlete Ciara Mageean will be taking time from her busy schedule to officially start race proceedings. Ciara, who is currently training with the hope of reaching London Olympics 2012, said “I am very pleased to officially start the Leitrim road race and fun road and wish the Fontenoys every success with what is sure to be a great racing event building on last year’s success”. Her presence will certainly add to the event given her impressive list of achievements to date which include gold and silver medals in World and European Youth Games as well as an outstanding top 10 finish at the last Commonwealth Games. The Fun run will start at 1pm and the Senior 5 mile road race at 2pm. Generous cash prizes for overall winners, veteran age category prizes and a team prize for sporting clubs are on offer. Athletes are reminded that post-race shower facilities, hot food and free sports massage are available to those competing.
