Persistent rain failed to dampen spirits or performances at the fourth meeting of the Lagan Valley Super Six series, as athletes produced a host of personal bests and season-best performances in challenging conditions.

Competitors from Newcastle AC were among those to impress on a wet evening that still attracted a strong turnout and delivered several standout results across both junior and senior categories.

In the junior events, Aoife Grant secured sixth place in the U16 shot put with a personal best performance. On the track and fresh from the British Intercounties Fell Running Championships, Donal McDaid delivered one of the performances of the night, smashing his previous 800m best by an incredible 27 seconds, while Ellie Moore and Lily McMurray also achieved personal bests in the same event, improving their times by 10 and 11 seconds respectively.

There was further success for Rory McAlinden in the U12 events where he was one of the youngest athletes in this group, who posted a time of 2:08 in the 600 metres and cleared 3.18 metres in the long jump.

The senior athletes also enjoyed a productive evening. Patrick McDaid delivered a notable performance in the 800 metres, recording a personal best of 2:13.01, despite having completed a 12-mile training run earlier in the day. In the field events, Siobhan Grant continued her prep for next weeks Ni and Ulster Masters Championship finishing fifth in the shot put with a season-best throw.

The impressive results highlighted the determination of the athletes, who refused to let the adverse weather conditions affect their performances.

With numerous personal bests and strong placings achieved, Newcastle AC can look back on another successful outing as the Lagan Valley Super Six series continues.
