Junior Donard Forest Races 2009

In all 18 young people competed in the latest round of the NIMRA Junior Championships Series. The U17 course was a shortened version of the main course, although from the positions of some of the juniors when they turned off I suspect the oldies were very relieved to see them go.

Eoghan Totten ran with real zest on what must be considered ‘home turf’, reaching the top path and the junior cut-off amongst the top 5 men. Meanwhile at the same point in the race Aine McCann was third lady having only just been caught by Alwynne Shannon as they reached the path.

Both the boys and girls junior races were competitive this week and bode well for the future. The U14 race was as usual fast and furious, and the battle for first place was the fiercest of the night with the top four places being separated only by a second and a lot of mud.

Thank you to all the seniors who helped marshal and the addition of ‘junior arrows’ in orange paint was much appreciated by all the juniors.
