Run Forest Run Series – Tollymore

Report by Road Runner

Six Newcastle AC members took part in the well organised Born 2 Run races in Tollymore on Saturday.

Tom Crudgington took on the 5k course and was placed 6th overall out of a field of 212 in an impressive time of 19 minutes 20 seconds.

Aine Gosling, James King, Connaire McVeigh, Gary McEvoy and Brian McVeigh took on the 10k course which had a field of 450 people.

Aine Gosling put in a fantastic run to finish first female and 20th overall in a time of 42:30.

The veteran Connaire McVeigh fresh from his winter break and James “the eggman” King were the first two club males home. Connaire was 6th overall with a time of 38:38 and James was 7th overall with a time of 38:46. After the race James commented he could have caught Connaire only for the detour he had to make around one of Wonderwalls loose horses. Connaire disputed this and simply said he wanted it more than James.

The next across the line were Gary McEvoy who was 8th overall in a time of 39:57 and Brian McVeigh who was 9th overall in a time of 40:00. A steward’s enquiry had to be called after the race to confirm Gary’s time was official as he got confused on the boundary of Kilcoo and Bryansford and thought he was doing the 5k race.

Thanks to the Born 2 Run team for the post-race refreshments.
