Delamont Alps and Welsh Iron Man

Two Newcastle AC athletes took park this weekend in two completely different events, Ronan McVeigh finishing an excellent 2nd place in the very tough Alps 5km at Delamont, while across in Wales Luke McMullan was taking part an Iron Man.

An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) run, raced in that order and without a break. It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world.

Luke finished an excellent 80th position from nearly 2500 starters, in a time of 10 hours 45minutes, completing the swim in 1.01.53, the bike ride in 6.02.55 and fishing off with a 3.28.25 marathon.
