Lagan Valley Super 6 Series Ends on a High

The Lagan Valley Super 6 series came to a spectacular conclusion at Meet 6, with athletes from across the junior and senior ranks producing a host of medals, personal bests and outstanding performances.

The headline performance of the evening came from Harry McVeigh, who stormed to an exceptional 4:49 mile to become the fastest U14 mile runner in the UK this season. McVeigh had already enjoyed success earlier in the evening, claiming silver in the 100m to complete a memorable night.

A Weekend of Racing Success for Newcastle AC

This weekend offered something to whet the appetite for athletes across all disciplines, with plenty of strong performances and podium finishes for Newcastle AC.

From the Lurig Challenge in Cushendall to chasing Irish selection in the mountains of Wicklow, with stops along the way in Carlingford for 5K PBs and Dublin for National medals, there was plenty to celebrate. Several athletes also kept the carbon footprint down by staying closer to home and taking on the iconic Seven Sevens in the Mournes.

Young Stars and Senior Standouts Shine for Newcastle AC

The popular Co. Down 5K took place on Thursday evening in Downpatrick, attracting runners of all ages to one of the region’s fastest and best-supported road races.

Niamh Watson delighted with her performance

Known for its flat and speedy course around the Grove Shopping Centre, competitors tackled an unusual 7.5-lap route featuring smooth corners and long straights thatregularly produce personal bests across all four races. Despite the repetitive nature of the course, which can feel like running on a tarmac track, the event remains a favourite on the local racing calendar thanks to its excellent organisation, enthusiastic crowd support and range of children’s races that kick off the evening’s action.

Newcastle AC’s young athletes produced a series of outstanding performances at the NI and Ulster U14-U20 Track and Field Championships at the Mary Peters Track, Belfast, with the club enjoying a highly successful weekend across a range of events. Competing against the province’s best young talent, Newcastle athletes delivered medals, personal bests and impressive displays that underlined the club’s growing strength across all age groups with 8 athletes taking home 7 medals over the course of the weekend.

The All-Ireland Schools Athletics Championships in Tullamore represents the pinnacle of schools athletics in Ireland, bringing together the country’s most talented young athletes to compete at the highest level. Held annually at the renowned Tullamore Harriers Stadium, the championships showcase outstanding performances, fierce competition, and the dedication of students who have progressed through regional and provincial stages to earn their place on the national stage.
