PBs, Grit and Glory for Newcastle AC at All-Ireland Schools

The All-Ireland Schools Athletics Championships in Tullamore represents the pinnacle of schools athletics in Ireland, bringing together the country’s most talented young athletes to compete at the highest level. Held annually at the renowned Tullamore Harriers Stadium, the championships showcase outstanding performances, fierce competition, and the dedication of students who have progressed through regional and provincial stages to earn their place on the national stage.

With a proud history dating back to 1916, the championships are recognised as one of the longest-running schools athletics events in the world and continue to inspire generations of athletes. Over two exciting days of track and field action, competitors from schools across Ireland come together in the spirit of sportsmanship, determination, and excellence, creating an unforgettable celebration of athletics.

The summer track season continues at full pace for our junior and senior athletes and with competitions coming thick and fast throughout June, there is rarely a free weekend left in the calendar. Thursday evening’s Lagan Valley Meet at the Mary Peters Track once again showcased the strength and depth of the club, with athletes in the red and yellow vests producing a series of outstanding performances across the age groups. Some of Britain and Ireland’s fastest middle-distance runners descended on the Mary Peters Track on Saturday afternoon as the British Milers Club meeting marked the venue’s 50th anniversary with a celebration of elite athletics and community sport.

The special anniversary meet, held at the famous Belfast stadium named after Olympic champion Mary Peters, combined high-quality BMC racing with youth events and club competitions to honour five decades of athletics at the iconic track.

PBs, Podiums and a Record-Breaker: Newcastle AC Impress at Districts

The Ulster Schools Athletics Association recently hosted its School District competitions across Northern Ireland, uncovering emerging talent while also providing a platform for established athletes to showcase their abilities. Over the past fortnight, competitors battled for coveted places at the Ulster Schools Championships.
For schools in District A, the level of competition mirrored that of the Club Ulster Championships, making it the most demanding district. Many Newcastle AC members found themselves in this highly competitive group, representing schools such as St. Malachy’s High School, Shimna College, Down High School, Kilkeel High School, Assumption Grammar, and St. Louis Kilkeel. Athletes competed across a wide range of events, with many securing qualification for the Ulster Schools Championships and achieving significant personal bests at a crucial stage of the season.
