When you’ve trained hard and had a great run at the Ulster Championships, to be selected to represent the county and even provincial squad is an opportunity that you can’t pass. With 10 of the Newcastle AC junior squad selected to embrace such an opportunity, it was time to organise everyone for a trip to Kilkenny to take part in the 123.ie National Senior, Junior and Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships, hosted by Gowran AC. Fahlin Impresses to take Bronze at Bobby Rea XC

Even Storm Babet wasn’t enough to put a stop to the highly anticipated Bobby Rea International Cross Country in Comber on Saturday. With route changes a possibility to avoid the race becoming a duathlon due to waterlogged lands, the swift actions of Athletics Ni on Friday evening ensured the event would go ahead sprinkled with an authentic cross country feel of muck and gutters. Though even with rerouting plans in place, Saturday morning welcomed the blue skies and dry conditions that every spectator could dream of. However the runners still had a big task on their hands and many of them also had muck from a fall or two around the course.

NI & Ulster Uneven Age Group XC Championship

With recent inclement weather, there was no denying in the run up to the NI and Ulster Cross Country Uneven Championships in Donegal that it was going to be unavoidable muck, gutters and swimming pools. Though as one Athletics Coach at Athletics NI pointed out, that shouldn’t be a problem for the club with the mountain runners. And he wasn’t far wrong!

Junior Cross Country Series Incoming

This weekend, The Spring Gardens in Castlewellan Forest Park will host Race 1 of the ever popular McGrady Financial Service, Junior Cross Country Series. At 10am, October 1st, Murlough AC will kick off the first race of the Series, playing host to the junior runners at the the popular figure of eight course in Castlewellan.
