Toscano End of Season Party

59 Athletes turned out last Monday evening to enjoy a superb spread in the Toscano in Newcastle.  It was a lovely opportunity for some teambuilding amongst our athletes and a chance to chat and relax.  Our thanks to Averil Johnston for organising the night and to Marco and his team at the Toscano for the endless supply of tasty food.

Pizza June16On the night we made a special presentation to Ms Ellen McVea from Shimna College.  Ellen is retiring this month and we wanted to show our appreciation (in a small way) for all that she has done for Newcastle Junior Athletics Club.  Ellen has been a big supporter of our Club in so many ways.  She has always been there opening and closing the building, helping us with set-up and equipment and nothing has ever been too much trouble.  We wish Ellen well in her retirement and thank her for all that she has done for us.

Meet 4 Firmus Energy Super 6 Series

On Thursday 23rd June Newcastle AC Juniors took an U13 girls team to the Mary Peters Track for Meet 4 of the Firmus Super 6 Series.

Firmus June16The team consisted of Alex Johnston, Ciara Savage, Emily Steele & Hannah Carson and they were in the first 4 x 100m heat of the evening, drawn in lane 5.  Alex got the girls off to a quick start on the first bend and handed over to Ciara who powered down the back straight, handing over to Emily Steele. Emily ran a superb bend before handing over to Hannah who produced a great finish to just get up into 3rd place in their heat in a time of 63.25s.

The girls stayed on, in the rain, for the U13 javelin. Hannah threw 9.61m for her only qualifying throw and Ciara, in her first experience of Javelin, threw a creditable 8.12m. There is surely more to come from both and with a little practice both could be up near the medal positions.  Well done girls!

N.I. & Ulster Track and Field Championships

Eve June16Newcastle Athletics Club junior, Eve Kenneally took part in the N.I. & Ulster Track and field championship on Sunday at the Mary Peters Track. She was the clubs only junior member to complete on the day.  Eve didn’t let the torrential rain hinder her performance running her 1st ever 1500m to cross the finish line in 7th place with a time of 5 min 33 sec. Congratulations Eve.

Hope you all have a great summer with some lovely weather!  Keep an eye on the Events page of the website for upcoming events.
