It was great to see so many Newcastle junior athletes on a cold but dry evening last Thursday at the Mary Peter’s Track for the second Meet of the Firmus Energy Super 6 Series. All enjoying the excellent facilities and some trying out distances and field events for the first time.
First up were our Mini’s. The mini boys competed in the 600m with Aaron McClelland coming in at 2m17s and Aidan Mallet finishing in 2m34s, their results were reversed in the shot put as Aidan Mallet threw 4.31m while Aaron McClelland threw 3.33m. The mini girls ran 150m with Rose Carson finishing in 27.09s and Orla White in 27.49s and then they competed in the long jump where Orla jumped 1.89m and Rose 1.79m.
The next group of NAC athletes to compete were the under 13 girls, 5 in total competing so we’re hoping for a relay team for 23rd June. In the 200m Hannah Carson finished in 33.52s, Alex Johnston 34.19s, Ciara Savage 36.47s, Alana Lyons 38.27s and Eleonor Rogers 42.93s. In the high jump Hannah jumped 1.05m and Alex and Ciara 1.00m. Ciara stayed on till the end to compete in the 800m which showed great stamina and commitment achieving a time of 3m19.8s as the rest of us headed home.
Well done to all who competed and we look forward to seeing you all back at the track for the next meet on Thursday 2nd of June.
