On a very busy day in the running calendar, 47 athletes arrived in Castlewellan for the now traditional pre-Christmas night out Charity run – an ideal opportunity to get the legs warmed up for the inevitable dancing and general misbehaving that would follow later on that night. 47 started and 47 finished, but in now accepted fashion two did their own thing! Grainne and Patricia started out with the main field before finding a more interesting path; this led to a deviation off route, a bit of a nature trek, some impromptu bird watching before ambling back to the point from whence they came. After all of that they were home first by a country mile!!! The times below are accurate to a point as the timekeeper was suffering from a viral infection and a little under the weather. Please do not hesitate to let him know if there are any inaccuracies and he guarantees to do absolutely nothing about it as this was a bit of good hearted Christmas fun. If you ran faster you know it so well done!!!
Thanks to everyone for coming out and donating to charity – £600 was raised on the morning and a further £150 was collected on the night from those generous club members who were unable to attend but more than willing to hand over some cash. On Saturday morning £250 was donated to Emily McAlinden towards her missionary work in South Africa in the summer, £250 to Cancer Research and £100 towards the collection to purchase a defibrillator for Castlewellan Forest Park. The additional money collected will also be handed over in the near future. Any further donations will be greatly received. Thanks to Pascal Toner for setting the course (they all loved it), to Frank Cunningham who was ‘tour guide Barbie’ for the morning and to the angelic Nora, less angelic Roisin, Michelle, June, MT, Ciaran (AKA the Dog Whisperer!) and Rebecca for starting, finishing and organising and manning the hospitality. Thanks also to Martin McMullan of LIFE for handing over his wonderful premises in the Courtyard for the pre-run gathering and the post-run refreshments. Thanks also to Vicky for coming in early to look after us and going out of her way to make sure that everyone was looked after – it was very much appreciated.
